3 Takeaways Of 2018

 

We're all overwhelmed with the New Years rush. Hopefully, you've kept most of your resolutions & if you've fallen off a bit, it's the perfect time to pick them back up. I spent the last weeks of 2018 reflecting on how fantastic that year was from amazing vacations to temporary moves, unforgettable dates & everything in between. I'm thankful for the challenges which have shaped me into the woman I am today that's ready to take on whatever 2019 brings. There were a few key things that assisted me through these challenges & refocused me this past year that I would love to share with you all.

1. Books

I was never much of reader growing up. Here & there I would pick up a book for school then proceed to put it down for a new toy or watch on of my favorites shows (which happened to be on HGTV), but this past year I've learned the importance of self-education. Outside of my academics, I made it a priority to read at least two books per month. Most of the time I do this at the start of the day to center myself & at the end of the day to calm my mind. Implementing this practice into my schedule gives me daily inspiration to work towards my goals & it allows me to apply the principles I learn.

Over the summer during my stint in Washington DC life felt like a vacation. Therefore, I ate as if I was on one. Chick-Fil-A became apart of morning routine & eating out after a long day of being "the intern" became my way to cope with the stress of being away from my family & dealing with a large workload. Physically I gained a few pounds but nothing that significantly impacted my shape but health wise I felt horrible. When I returned to Atlanta, I set my 4th Quater goals to prioritize my health. Who knew that months laters & several (hundred) articles later I would be the health nut I am today. I have dropped a significant amount of weight, but more importantly I am healthier & happier then I've ever been. While I'm still the foodie at heart when eating out with a friend my day to day diet consists of low carbs, lots of veggies & no dairy. Along with my dietary changes I workout 5-6 days a week, do pilates 1-2 week & meet with a personal trainer on a weekly basis. My high levels of activity provide me with a routine that keeps me balanced, productive & happy!

3. Environment

You are whom & what you surround yourself with.

I left Atlanta with three suitcases full of clothes & when I returned I expected to have huge unpacking of the several bins of things I put away but surprisingly I found that I didn't need all that I thought I did. I enjoy knowing that I have nothing more than what I need. I apply this philosophy to little things from how much food to buy & eat to other aspects of my life regarding luxury purchases & wants. Decluttering my life & being a minimalist has reduced my stressed as I have more energy to put into the things & people I love. Further, I know I'm lowering my carbon footprint on the environment which is a nice bonus.

Going into 2019 I encourage all of my friends to evaluate these three aspects of your life & find ways to create an optimal routine that keeps you happy & healthy.
